REVIEW – Aeneas Faversham Forever

Pleasance Courtyard
The Penny Dreadfuls are set to take the Fringe by storm this year with their fantastic show, ‘Aeneas Faversham Forever’. Set in Victorian London, the action follows a children’s author who finds himself embroiled in a blood-curdling conspiracy to unleash the evil powers of a forgotten Dark Lord, referred to as the ‘Great Gelatinous One’. Complete with well-timed clichés and music selected from the most dramatic bits of epic movies, the performance had the audience in stitches for the duration. The cast of three are transformed into numerous comedic characters, who are involved with such intriguing oddities as Jeremy Frog, the Brotherhood, a druid, Mine-carting, and a magical wishing dress. Also featured is some gorgeous shadow puppetry, provided by the able puppeteers of Pangolin’s Teatime (whose show, ‘The Last Yak’, is also appearing at the Pleasance this year).
A comedy masterpiece, my only disappointment was that he didn’t take his trousers off – you’ll see what I mean… The show was performed to a packed-out audience, so book early as it is sure to sell out!
