"Make or Break"

Edinburgh Rugby are poised to progress through to the next round of the Heineken Cup after defeating Racing Metro in Paris last week. Sat atop pool 2 the players recognise what an opportunity they have this Sunday (22nd) down at Murrayfield.

Edinburgh University’s very own Matt Scott, who combines his fourth-year Law studies with playing for Edinburgh Rugby, would like to see the fans out in force. Speaking to edinburghrugby.org, he said, “Our last Pool match against London Irish could make or break our involvement in the knockout rounds of European Cup competition so we need every available supporter in the city and beyond to will us on from the seats and the standing areas”.

Scott recently extended his contract and Head Coach Michael Bradley is pleased to have him on board for the future, saying “It’s fantastic for the club to have bright young players like Matt committing to the club. “He took full advantage of the opportunity offered to our younger players when the internationalists were in New Zealand for the Rugby World Cup and has worked hard to keep his place in the squad since their return. “He’s an Edinburgh boy through-and-through so it means a lot to him to get this deal and I’m sure he’ll prove to be an asset to the club in the years to come.”

Despite admitting it has, at times, been hard to juggle studying and playing Scott is focussed on the future. “I’m really looking forward to finishing my degree and focusing all my energy on being a professional rugby player”.

With a student ticket priced at £ 5 for the crucial fixture on Sunday a bumper crowd is on the cards as Edinburgh hope to extend their European sojourn.
