This year Freshair is holding a LIVE Battle of the Bands contest in Teviot Underground on Tuesday 23rd March. Every week on “Evenings with Dave” we interview one of the 5 bands getting ready to fight it out for the winning prize: a slot at The Wickerman Festival. This week we have Vegas Loft in the studio for a chat and to perform a live acoustic set. Tune in every Thursday from 6.30 to get the build up to the Battle of the Bands. In our last brodcast of the year “Evenings with Dave” has a very special 2 hour Christmas Special to warm you up from revision!  We have our interview with Lead By Example, the winners of Get Heard and our very own Best New Unsigned Artist of 2009!  The show will take place from 7-9pm on wednesday night with a very special guest presenter.

It time for the finals!  Eventually after a month of voting on Evenings With Dave’s competition “Get Heard” we have our two finalists: Sarcastic Affection and Lead By Example.  The semifinals proved very popular with massive support from you, our listeners.  We need your help once again to be part of Freshair history as we prepare to to award our winning band this Sunday night with the title of Best New Unsigned Artist of 2009.  Its all down to you who wins.  Simply tune in this Sunday night at 9pm to Evenings With Dave to submit your vote by emailing studio@freshair.org.uk.  The winner will then join me in the studio to chat and promote their band AND appear live across central Scotland on 103.1 CentralFM culminating with an interview with Grant Thomson.

March 2009:

The Fresh Air live show broadcast sadly draws to a close this month for this Semester. Luckily we have a bevvy of social events to ease the pain.

First up we have the beloved Twist n Shout, back again to deliver Fresh Air’s monthly dose of 50s and 60s Rock and Roll. This month sees the return of T&S live band veterans The Tri-Tones heading up entertainment for the night which as always costs just £2 to get in before midnight, £3 after.

Next we have the Fresh Air Charity Auction taking place on Tuesday 10th March at City Cafe from 8pm. Lots include everthing from Paintballing sessions, meals out, salon experiences and even internships! Check out the forums for more details and to start bidding.

Finally we have the immense Indie Club Together, the Jewel In Fresh Air’s Crown. This indie extravaganza will take place at the award winning Cabaret Voltaire on Blair Street on Thursday 26th March and will feature the best indie DJs across a range of Edinburgh nights coming together to perform a collection of not to be missed sets. The full line up will be announced later this week, but I’d start getting excited now.

The live show broadcast ends on Friday 27th March so pack in listening hours whilst you can. After that Fresh Air will still be broadcasting, but it’ll be 100% music until shows kick off again for a short but sweet broadcast in April.

This week it has been announced that Fresh Air members have been nomintated for a fantastic THREE Student Radio Awards. Tallah Brash has been nominated for best female presenter and Jordan Rogers-Smith for both best newcomer and best techincal achievement for his creation of the Fresh Air Radio Player on Facebook. Both members commented “woop woop” upon the announcement. The winners will be announced at the Student Radio Awards on Thursday 6th November at the Indigo2 venue in the big city of London. Ruddy well done team!
