Axis of Awesome: Songs in the key of Awesome
Youtubers will know the Four Chord Song and how brill this lot are. Tonight they were…Axis.
Like Flight of the Conchords, their Antipodean compatriots (what do they have against Podeans? I wonder), they parody the chosen genres with a nod and a wink and a sly, wry smile. During Cheesy RnB number pastiche, the CD backing track packed up and they did it again, and better, true professionals as always. Continual assertion that their KFC song would be their biggest hit provided a skeleton to the show, as they performed great number after great number, such as a futurist pop song which made them shout “Do you like the music coming out of my car?!” like some Aussie Beastie Boys, the Beastie Maaaates, perhaps. Audience interplay was brill, and the teasing of the short nerdy one was akin to Hammond teasing. In fact, AoA is like a Top Gear in Oz focussed on strains of Pop, not the torque of an Astra.
They did plug a DVD a few too many times but it appears it’s worth it for 24/7 AoA affection.
