How are you going to get people to the theatre in 2010 when the Internet and BBC3 have them on tenterhooks the whole time for their free entertainment? The answer lies a play in which characters both play avatars in a virtual world and their real life representations. Eleven young actors aged 22-26 came up with scenarios by workshop, bundled into this narrative pertaining to a soldier trying to deal with the loss of a fellow combatant by becoming addicted to PC games. Although the bouncing nature of the avatars could fray one’s nerves, this accomplished piece made one leave pondering the nature of virtual reality, with the emphasis on the latter word, and the tough nature of balancing the two. This young troupe has just held a residence at the Camden Roundhouse. Who knows what lies in store for them after this masterful morality tale…
