Flamenco Con Fusion

It’s all very well and good being technically proficient at moving your hands on a fretboard and having people dance to the music you make, but how do you bring other audiences into the great style of flamenco? If you are Ricardo Garcia (and he is) you put on a once-in-a-Festival show which melds hip-hop and beboy with clip-clop and ole! Angry faces slowly become gleeful as Nico, the outsider, comes to terms with this foreign form of dancing. With Garcia banging and twanging away, and a salacious female also providing some photogenic fun, an audience clapped along and were entertained for an hour. The point was to have a good time, and appreciate that Edinburgh’s Fringe, even in one-off performances such as this, was about multiculturalism in a pluralist world. Great pun in the title, too.
