Radio Day

PHOTOS FROM THE SHOW || DONATE

The 24-hour radio show for Comic Relief was an incredible success. Huge thanks to everyone who listened, to the hundreds of people who emailed in and got involved, and most importantly to everyone who has so far donated.

The donation website is still up and running - just hit ‘DONATE’ (above) - and we’re still trying to get the total higher and higher before Red Nose Day.

To make donating (anything, even £1!!) worth your while - below are some downloads from the show (please right-click and ‘Save Target As’ on the link you would like to download.

Interviews

The one and only Mr Ewan McGregor phoned the studio to chat to Tim about his motorbike trips around the world and…would you believe it…poo.

Some highlights from the show

These highlights packages were constructed as the show progressed but, despite being thrown together in a rush, they do a great job of picking out the mayhem from the show - if you missed it - have a listen!

Live sessions from the show

We had a whole bunch of performers through the studio during the 24-hours, click their names to get more information about them, or download their live tracks with the song-links.

  9. Guy and the deranged, sleep-deprived 24-hour-show gang (not ‘real’ music in the sense of the other downloads available!): GANSTA’S PARADISE (5.54MB, 4:02) | OH YEAH (3.49MB, 2:32)

Fresh Academy

What is Fresh Academy… Well, it’s really just a bit of a cross between ‘Fame Academy’ and kareoke (although two of the songs were original compositions!). It kicked off the first hour of the show, we had five teams competing, and voting continued for a full 23 hours through to the end of the show - check out the highlights to hear who won!

You can download the highlighs from ‘Fresh Academy’ here! (5.93MB, 4:19) - or…you can get the full songs from the five different acts below…

Blind Date

Not a lot of explanation needed for this one… Thursday afternoon, we had two rounds of blind date, sent the lucky couples off and they reported back (a little worse for wear) to see how it had gone. Hear it all below:

Other bits and bobs…

We had a radio ceilidh - which essentially just involved a ceilidh band playing a few songs live in the studio and making anyone that was nearby dance

We had our very own beatboxer and MC in the studio who attempted to show Tim what to do. That went well.

Below is the page and schedule that was displayed during the show

Just some of the things that happened during the show…

12.30 Fresh Academy
Think of ‘Fame Academy’ crossed with kareoke - it might sound bad…but it’s not! Fresh Academy will be an amusing and slightly rediculous musical competition. You will be able to vote for your favourite act all afternoon on Thursday - keep listening for re-caps from the competitors.
13.30 Revelation Rock Gospel Choir
Some of the gang from this Edinburgh University society will be heading into the studio for some merry singing.
14:30 The Hussys
This Glasgow band will be dropping into the studio amidst their UK tour, ahead of their gig that evening at Heriot-Watt. www.myspace.com/thehussys
15:00 Blind Date
Needing very little introduction - we’ll be playing Blind Date for real, then sending the contestants off on a date, finding out how they got on before the 24-hours are up.
16:00 Rocking or Shocking
A musical debate will ensue with Kate and Heather…tune in to give your opinion.
16:15 William Douglas
Local artist William Douglas will be popping in to play a couple of songs. www.myspace.com/williamdouglasandthewheel
17:00 Sub-Opt
This great up and coming local band will join us for a live set and a chat. www.myspace.com/suboptmusic
17:30 Desert Island Discs
Edinburgh student and Fresh Air fan Tom French will be taking us through his desert island discs.
18:00 Ewan McGregor Interview
The filmstar will be phoning the studio for a live interview.
19:00 Futuro
Glasgow indie visits the studio in the form of Futuro. Check out some of their tracks: www.myspace.com/wearefuturo
19:30 MC-Tastic
A local MC will be in the studio in a vague attempt to teach Tim how to MC. Embarrassing, for sure.
20:00 Comedy-esque Nonsense
Kiran, Henry and Jonny will be providing 45 minutes of sketches and games of the comedic variety.
21:00 Alan Davison
Edinburgh solo acoustic artist will show us his stuff. www.myspace.com/alandavison
21:30 Count the Ducks … LIVE!
A slightly off-beat game involving…counting ducks. You’ll have to tune in to find out more.
22:00 Beatboxing
Some local beatboxing talent + MC will take over the microphones and show us their nifty skills.
22:15 Radio Ceilidh
How on earth does a radio ceilidh work? We’re not sure yet, but one thing is certain: a ceilidh band live in the studio.
23:00 Lee gets a waxing
If enough money has been raised in the preceeding hours, Lee from Fresh Air has agreed to get certain bits of him waxed live on air. Tune in for the screams, or look at the four webcams to witness the pain.
23:15 The Porn Quiz
Concept: some of the noises you might find in adult videos and trashy RnB songs are very similar…can contestants correctly guess which is which?
00:00 Call my Bluff
About time that game made a come-back. Or perhaps not. Guess we’ll find out.
01:00 Steven Smith
Some live tracks from Steven Smith. http://www.myspace.com/smithstevensmusic
01:45 Guess the Theme Tune
Does what it says on the tin.
02:00 Naked Hour
Now’s the time to make some donations to the Comic Relief fund if you want us to humiliate ourselves.
03:00 MP3 Top-trumps
HP and Tallah will be competing, top-trump style, with their MP3s in a competition to keep Tim awake.
03:30 Tallah’s Mallet
A bit like word association, but much better. FACT.
04:00 The Lone Granger
Singer-songwriter Guy Williamson will be playing us some tracks from his band ‘Granger’.
04:30 Gaffer-tape Kareoke
Contestants will do their best to win the late-night kareoke competition…with gaffer tape over their mouths. Removing the tape might also prove to be amusing.
05:00 Celebrity Foreheads
A bit like that game where you get the name of a celebrity pinned to your back and have to guess who you are, only it’ll be pinned (or if we’re nice, taped) to guests’ foreheads instead. Tune in and guess which celebrity people are before they do.
05:30 Inappropriate Hour
If anyone is strange enough to be awake and listening - now’s your chance to email in with anything you’d like us to read out on-air, no matter how rude or crude - making a slight change to what you’d normally hear broadcast on a radio station!
07:30 The Breech
Another local band come in for an early-morning live session.
09:30 EUSA malarkey
At the University of Edinburgh, student elections are approaching. We’ll be getting a variety of candidates into the studio for some merry debates and arguements, perhaps an arm wrestle or two, to help you choose who to vote for.
11:30 The Round Up
A look back at the last 24 hours, how it’s gone, what’s happened, and a look at the final monies raised for Comic Relief.
