Edinburgh slipped to a ninth straight defeat with a single point loss to Cardiff Blues, perhaps demonstrating exactly why Michael Bradley’s contract has not been renewed past the end of this current season. The game was there to be won by Edinburgh who will no doubt come to rue the three missed penalties from Gregor Hunter in the first half and the last gap opportunities they had at the end of the match.

Scotland could not make up for a poor first half display that gave South Africa enough of a lead to hold off a spirited effort from the home side in the second. Continual defensive problems exposed by the South Africans hurt Scotland and an inability to convert chances saw the home side fall to a second straight defeat.

The grey and dreich weather did not bode well for Edinburgh and neither did the advert for a hospice that was broadcast pre-game
as they welcomed Saracens to Murrayfield, at the start of their European campaign. Hopes were high of recreating last seasons’ success in the competition but a humiliation by the visiting English side has surely put pay to any thoughts of progression from the pool stages. Saracens outclassed Edinburgh in every facet of the game, playing with a precision and physicality that rarely allowed Edinburgh out of their own half.

A lacklustre performance from Edinburgh Rugby the visiting Treviso side their first win at Murrayfield. Despite early errors the Italians were able to build a lead that proved insurmountable for the home side despite a spirited second half showing when Edinburgh found a tempo that they usual display from the start.

The rugby gods were smiling on Scottish rugby on Saturday night. With the international 7s jamboree in Glasgow and the Warriors securing a play-off berth, all was well on the West coast. Along the M8 Edinburgh were saying goodbye to no less than ten departing players with Scotland legend Chris Paterson among them. It seemed obvious then that Paterson was to score on his last outing before moving upstairs into office with the SRU as Edinburgh closed out their season with a victory over Treviso.
