NOVEMBER 8TH MAIREARAD AND ANNA LEITH FOLK CLUB EDINBURGH

SIGI WHITTLE: Maureen’s and Anna are one of the finest trad duos in the country or even the world. Coming from the same tiny village as Mairearad I have grown up with her family as well as her music, some of it written at my school. They are a class act and a must see for any trad lovers

NOVEMBER 8TH THE WYTCHES ORAN MOR GLASGOW

NOVEMBER 10TH WAVE PICTURES SNEAKY PETES EDINBURGH

JERRY MORIARTY: The Wave Pictures have been touring their particular brand of guitar driven indie rock for over ten years now, yet their latest releases suggest that maybe they are on the brink of something bigger. And if you are still not sold, for only £7 a ticket, its hard to think of a better value gig in Edinburgh this November.

NOVEMBER 13TH VAN MORRISON PLAYHOUSE EDINBURGH

AMISHA ABEYAWARDENE: Few artists have successfully captured the Americana spirit. As an outsider myself, it is inspiring to cite the poetic voice of Van Morrison, the Belfast Cowboy, as a passionate innovator in soul, blues, jazz, country and American folk. Not only was he an accomplished commercial musician, but also a successful pioneer in musicians taking artistic control of their work.

NOVEMBER 21ST PRIMAL SCREAM USHER HALL EDINBURGH

JERRY MORIARTY: When Primal Scream first exploded onto the music scene with Screamadelica, they said “We wanna get loaded and have a good time. We wanna have a party” Twenty years on, and the party is still continuing. An absolute guaranteed great time, they can’t be missed!

NOVEMBER 21ST CIGARETTES AFTER SEX KING TUTS WAH WAH HUT GLASGOW

SOPHIE SMITH: They’re melancholic and intense, but with a kind of dark humour to their lyrics that creates a uniquely nostalgic tone. There’s something very genuine about the sort of messy love that their lyrics convey; a relationship accepting of its flaws; a sense of uncomfortable intimacy. They make me feel like it’s the end of the night and I’m at a bad party with good people. One of the most fantastically atmospheric bands I’ve discovered in a long time.
