From Thursday 3rd to Sunday 6th July three FreshAir presenters will be bringing you coverage from Roskilde near Copenhagen in Denmark. The eight day festival is the largest Northern European cultural and music festival. The Rolling Stones, Outkast, Arctic Monkeys, Drake and Stevie Wonder are a handful of the acts on this year’s line-up.
Before we get started here is a little about us!
Hej! I’m Hans Christian the Copenhagen native with an indeterminable accent. You may know me as the second half of ‘Philosophy 808’, a weekly late night show on Freshair, but unless you’re my mom (hi mom!), it’s ok if you haven’t yet tuned in for my techno-philo-journalism. I’m a 2nd year Cognitive Science student at Edinburgh Uni, but also a dedicated yolo-oriented pan-European journalist with a much cherished press pass and a one man tent.
Things at Roskilde that I’m looking forward to :
From a yolo perspective: Kavinsky, Trentemoeller, Chromeo, DJ Nigga Fox, James Holden, Moderat, Diplo, Klumben og Raske penge, Moderat and Drake obviously.
The bulk of otherworldly jazz acts of whom I’ll mention FIRE! ORCHESTRA and The Necks.
Les Ambassadeurs feat. Salif Keita - no doubt the top of the bill of an impressive line-up representing a medley of diverse and exciting world-music.
Hi, I’m Charles Gillies (or ‘Charlie’ if you prefer!). I’ve been involved with FreshAir on and off for about three years, presenting my own show, DJing at events, and writing reviews for the website. I’ve just graduated from Edinburgh Uni, and am currently unemployed (lol).
Stuff at Roskilde I’m most looking forward to:
Mogwai, Slowdive, Damon Albarn, Stevie Wonder, Omar Souleyman (crazy psychedelic Syrian music, it’s great), James Holden, Kelela, DJ Nigga Fox, Toumani Diabaté, Forest Swords, Moderat
A lot of hip-hop, so Outkast, Drake, Pusha T, A$AP Ferg, Lunice, Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa…
Hi! I am Niomi. I graduated with a journalism degree from Edinburgh Napier University in 2013.
I have been a producer for a range of shows on FreshAir since 2012. I have also presented a weekly brunch show on the station with my friend Maddy for the last year.
I am really excited to bring you coverage from Roskilde 2014. This is my first time going to the festival. In fact, this is the first time I have been to Denmark. I am writing this after being in Copenhagen for only a few hours and I love its vibe already. I am looking forward to finding out how the Danes do their music festivals! From speaking to locals it sounds like Roskilde is a big deal here.
I can’t wait to see Outkast, Arctic Monkeys, Stevie Wonder, Drake and Cyril Hahn but I am also excited to checkout acts that I am not as familiar with.
